MY NAME IS GORA AND I DO NOT KNOW WHERE TO START MY STORY…. WHERE I WAS BORN, WHAT HAPPENED TO ME AND HOW I ENDED UP WITH KR. ALL I KNOW IS I WAS SOLD TO A WOMAN WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO BECOME MY FAMILY WHEN I WAS 7 WEEKS OLD.

I was the most good-looking boy in the litter in Sakarya, Turkey. When I became 5 months old this woman put me in a car one day and drove me a compound where 300 and more homeless dogs live. She took me from the car, and handed me to a woman there and said, “he does not see, I am not going to keep him”. Just like that. The lady looked at her and then at me, and said, “oh my he is gorgeous. Are you sure?” The woman who was about to leave me and said, “I am positive.” The lady at this new place, a place for dogs with no home, felt horrible, and accepted me with her good heart. I started to live with 300 dogs, and I was still just a puppy. While one human being could not tolerate to have me in her home, those 300 hundred dogs welcomed me without an issue. They understood I was having a vision issue, they accepted me as I am and they were very respectful to me.

I did not know why I was like this; one possibility is that I was born with a condition that affected my vision or there is a rumor that I was hit by car, then I lost my vision.

I lived in that compound for 3.5 years with 300 dogs. It was not easy, I was heartbroken. They sold me as an object and then I was thrown away from my home because I could not see well.

The lady who took care of us having difficult time to provide meals for all of us. Many days we did not have food in our stomach. Then one day, she made some a videos in the compound to ask help for food for us,. That video changed my life. A good Samaritan saw me and reached out to the lady. This kind person was interested in finding a home for me. Since I have no place to go and call as home, they put me in a pet transfer van and came to Izmir. I had vet appointment in the next day, seen by a vet, they took my blood, ran many tests, then they put me in big tube they call an MRI, and a radiologist read my MRI and wrote a report. They couldn’t make a conclusion about my condition they said, I might born like this or I had an accident when I was a really little puppy. While they were doing all these for me, I was very happy by getting special attention, and love from these wonderful people. But there was no place for me to stay, they put me in a kennel again, but at least this one was not crowded. Then they wrote to Kyra’s Rescue and explained my situation. I heard KR accepted me, and my second chapter of life started.

Well maybe I was excited too soon. I came Istanbul to KR a couple of months ago before Covid hit, and life as I knew it literally shut down. Again I was in kennels and spent 1.8 years in KR’s shelter and boarding and I just arrived in the U.S. this past May.

My KR mom took me to the best neurologist. We learned that I do not have a problem with my vision but with my depth perception. So, what that means is I can’t really calculate how close or far objects are so I easily struggle. When I first arrived to my KR home, I had a hard time to find my way to the yard, but once I learned, I had no trouble going to the yard to relieve myself and come back inside. As I mentioned, they checked everything in my blood. Everything was good except they found my thyroid gland was a little bit lazy, so I am on thyroid medication. I think I am the only dog in history, I have the most gorgeous soft fur, even though I have hypothyroidism. Yes, I am a special needs boy, just cannot calculate objects how close or far, but I am so loving, there is no dog in the world that I don’t get along. I love walking on a leash and, of course, I count the minutes to get my delicious meals. That’s all! if you have a room in your home and love in your heart to welcome me, I will put my head on your feet every night just to be close to you and to show you my appreciation. I believe I have a great life ahead of me, even though I lost many years with loneliness waiting for someone to see me, see me and hear my voice. What happened was not my fault, but I hold life so tight, I never gave up, and my path crossed with KR. I am already rescued; all I need is someone who loves me and sees me as great company. I am extremely easy going, potty trained, I sleep through the night. I do not have any bad habits and all I need is a soft pillow, meals, and your love.
