Thank you for taking the time to apply for a Kyra’s Rescue (KR) dog. Your application will be processed in the order that it was received.

The Adoption Application will assist us in understanding what you are looking for in your new rescue dog. Please note:

  1. It is required that you read the information provided on the Adoption Guideline tab prior to applying for a dog.

  2. We do not adopt our dogs to homes where there are children who are 4 years of age or younger.

  3. We do not adopt Golden Retrievers or other large dogs to applicants who reside in a rental apartment.

  4. We do not adopt outside of a 100 miles radius of the DC Metro area, unless there is a KR volunteer in that area who is available to conduct a home visit with the prospective adopter.

Notification of status of application:

Even if your application is found to be favorable, it may take 14 days (occasionally longer) for us to contact you as we receive many applications. If you are not contacted within 14 days, our Adoption Committee was not able to match you to the pet(s) for which you applied. We regret that, as we are a small all-volunteer rescue, we cannot respond to each application personally. At KR we put much thought into making the best match between our rescue dogs and potential adopters. Our decision is always based on what is best for the particular dog. Because each dog receives numerous applications, KR’s decision comes down to the best fit for the dog among a number of good applications. There are many considerations and factors in reviewing an adoption application. A good fit is based on:

  • the dog’s personality

  • your personality and life style

  • if there are children in the home (5 years of age or older) is it the right dog for your family situation

  • if there are other animals (cats or another dog) will our rescue dog adjust well, for the good of him/her and any pets already in the home

  • does the dog required a fenced yard

We may receive several good applicants for the same dog. In such a case, we will contact the applicants who were not selected for that specific dog to ask if they may be interested in adopting another KR dog, or if we may keep their application on file for possible adoption in the future.

Because we are an entirely volunteer run organization, we ask for your patience.  Each decision is made with the dog's best interest in mind and in an effort to find the best match between each dog and family. This is solely at the discretion of the KR Team and is done to ensure that our dogs are placed in the most safe, caring and loving home.

**Kyra’s Rescue has the right to refuse any adoption we do not feel is in the best interest of the dog.**

PLEASE NOTE that if your application is found to be favorable and a home visit is scheduled, there is a $25 fee for the home visit which must be paid to the KR volunteer upon their arrival. The home visit fee is non-refundable regardless of whether or not you are approved to adopt, and must be paid in cash or by check as we don’t bill or take credit cards.

Tip: Please use an actual computer (vs. a phone or tablet) to fill out your application, and use either the Chrome or Firefox browsers to avoid any submission difficulties.

ATTENTION PLEASE!  Due to the increasing amount of emails we’re receiving which are asking for application status updates, we want to remind everyone that Kyra’s Rescue is run solely by volunteers who have busy lives in addition to running a busy rescue.  We are working tirelessly behind the scenes to process the dozens of applications we receive for each dog, and we ask our applicants to be patient.
